Blue Steel Springs are supplied in our Custom LX Saxophones as standard. These springs are heat treated and very rigid yet not brittle. We find that these springs give a faster, cleaner, and snappier feel to the key work of a Saxophone.
Our Gold Plated springs are simply our Blue Steel Springs plated with nickel and then gold. These gold plated springs will feel similar to our Blue Steel Springs, but with the added advantage that will never corrode.
The lower the spring tension, the easier a key will be to press down, and the higher the spring tension, the harder it will be to press a key down. If you do not have a preference, leave the slider set to 50%.
Venting refers to how efficiently sound waves are able to escape the body of your Saxophone. Many factors and variables will effect the venting on your Saxophone, but one key way to control venting is properly setting the key heights.
The key principle of this is: moving the pad away from the tone hole will make the note more free blowing with a sharper pitch; and moving the pad closer to the tone hole will give you a less free blowing note with a flatter pitch. If you don't have a preference, or are unsure on what key height you may prefer, just leave the slider set to medium and our technician will set the keys to 'standard' height, which will work nicely for most players.
